Ben Maxwell fired a pair of goals as the St. John's IceCaps shaded the Manchester Monarchs 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester.

Eric O'Dell had a goal and two assists for St. John's, while Aaron Gagnon collected three helpers. O'Dell now has a team record five-game goal-scoring streak, while Gagnon has picked up points in 10 straight games, tying Paul Postma's team record. Josh Lunden picked up a pair of assists for St. John's.

Kael Mouillierat opened the scoring at 7:43 of the first period as he sniped the top corner on Manchester keeper Martin Jones, with assists going to O'Dell and Lunden. Linden Vey capitalized on an IceCaps turnover to tie the game with approximately 30 seconds remaining in the first.

Maxwell took advantage of a screen and went top shelf to put the IceCaps ahead 2-1 on the powerplay at 3:19 of the second period. O'Dell and Gagnon recorded assists. However, the Monarchs squared the contest at two, as Brandon Kozun scored on a deflection through the legs of IceCaps netminder Mark Dekanich at 11:52 of the second.

The IceCaps went ahead to stay at 2:20 of the third as O'Dell converted a rebound on the powerplay for his 24th goal of the season. Lunden and Gagnon picked up assists. Ben Maxwell scored what turned out to be the winner at 12:30 of the final stanza banking the puck in past Jones, with helpers going to Gagnon and Jason Jaffray.

The Monarchs made things interesting with 2:30 left in the third when Marc Andre Cliché corralled a loose puck at the side of the IceCaps cage and found the back of the net. However, a late penalty to Anthony Stewart helped seal the win for St. John's.

Notes: Matthew Kirzinger made his professional debut for the IceCaps, wearing number 9 - the third IceCap to wear the number this season...Kirzinger, who recently signed an ATO with St. John's, was a teammate of former IceCap Zach Redmond at Ferris State...Mouillierat was named Mary's Brown's Hardest Working IceCap of the Game...The IceCaps went 2-6 on the powerplay and killed off both Manchester powerplays...St. John's was outshot 35-33.
