Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Portland Winterhawks picked up a big two-game sweep of the second place Kelowna Rockets over the weekend, and hold a seven-point lead in the Western Conference going into today's 2 p.m. matinee in Vancouver. The Hawks also have a six-point lead over the Edmonton Oil Kings for top spot overall in the WHL, with the Oil Kings coming to town in just over two weeks for a rematch of last year's championship series.

The Hawks have three games in four days coming up this weekend. Friday they host Tri-Cities in a game that has been added to ROOT Sports. Saturday's game against Vancouver will be a 3 p.m. start time with the Coliseum's curtains open, as they will be for Monday's Presidents Day Game against Spokane as well, another 3 p.m. start.

The top line of Brendan Leipsic, Nic Petan and Ty Rattie combined for 10 points in Saturday's win over Kelowna, including Petan's second career hat trick. With 98 points, Petan leads the WHL and is first across the entire CHL, while Brendan Leipsic is second with 97 points and Rattie is fourth with 81 points.

Petan's 40 goals lead the league, one ahead of Leipsic, and the two are tied atop the WHL with 58 assists. Leipsic also has a 10-game point streak, with 21 points in that span, including six straight multi-point games.

Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:

When the Hawks host Spokane next Monday at 3 p.m., the Winterhawks Booster Club will be hosting a blanket drive for the Union Gospel Mission. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently-used blankets to the game to help those in need.

Our next player appearance is Wednesday from 4 - 6 p.m. at the Les Schwab at 122nd and Division featuring Oliver Bjorkstrand, Taylor Leier, Brendan Leipsic and Nic Petan.
