BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (17-7) had five players score in double figures as they defeated the visiting Reno Bighorns (8-12) by a final score of 102-86.
Both teams were tied up at 20 to finish the first quarter, but Bakersfield came out with a high level of energy and effort in the second period as they scored eight quick unanswered points to ultimately give them a 51-43 halftime lead. The Jam elevated their lead in the second half as they led by as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter. Bakersfield's victory over Reno has them now at six straight wins and have an overall 8-1 record in the month of January.
The Jam were paced by Renaldo Major who scored 20 points, grabbed four rebounds and had 3 steals off the bench. Jerel McNeal had 17 points and five assists while Brian Butch recorded his 10th double-double of the season scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Reserve forward James Nunnally contributed 13 points and Adam Koch finished with 10 points. Diante Garrett had a game-high 10 assists.
Samardo Samuels had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Bighorns. Walker Russell scored 19 points and dished out six assists while Dontell Jefferson came off the bench and scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Both teams go back at it tomorrow night at 7 p.m. PT in Bakersfield.
