TULSA, Okla., December 12, 2012 " The Tulsa 66ers and the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) are teaming up for a Holiday Blood Drive on Saturday, Dec. 22, at the SpiritBank Event Center from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Each donor will receive two free tickets to the 66ers game that night against the Canton Charge (7 p.m. tipoff) and a commemorative Oklahoma City Thunder t-shirt, OBI baseball cap and health screenings.
Additionally, the first 50 donors will receive a complimentary pair of tickets for an upcoming Oklahoma City Thunder game at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. Free parking will be made available for the blood drive in the parking garage south of the arena in the Regal Plaza parking lot.
"We are excited to team up with the Oklahoma Blood Institute for the Holiday Blood Drive," said Tulsa 66ers President Jim Brylewski. "As an organization, we strive to make a positive impact on our community and give back to those around us. One of the best ways we can do that is by helping save lives right here in Oklahoma. This blood drives provides OBI with an essential supply of blood while giving donors the chance to experience the excitement of Tulsa 66ers and Oklahoma City Thunder basketball games."
OBI is the sole blood provider for patients in 140 medical facilities in Oklahoma including Saint Francis Health System, Cancer Treatment Center, Tulsa Spine and Specialty Hospital, and Tulsa Life Flight in the Tulsa area. Each donation can provide life-saving blood for up to three Oklahomans.
"The Tulsa 66ers and Oklahoma City Thunder provide great motivation for good-hearted Oklahomans to give when so many are traveling or involved in holiday activities, and blood donation typically declines," said John Armitage, M.D., president and chief executive officer. "We encourage all in the Tulsa area to stop by and give. Then, Oklahomans can ring in the New Year without concerns about a sufficient blood supply for those who need it."
Healthy adults, 16 and older, are encouraged to donate*. Blood can be given every 56 days. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 1-877-340-8777, or visiting www.obi.org.
