Strong finishes to both the first and second halves proved to be the difference as the Canton Charge fell to the Maine Red Claws, 103-90, at the Portland Exposition Arena on Sunday night. Canton fell to 2-5 on the year, while the Red Claws improved to 5-2 and currently hold a 2-0 edge in the season series between the two teams.
Jon Leuer notched his first D-League double-double in just his second game since being assigned by the Cleveland Cavaliers with 15 points and 13 rebounds as well as three steals in 28 minutes. Arinze Onuaku scored a team-high 17 points for Canton to go along with his nine rebounds and two blocks in 21 minutes. Micheal Eric added eight points, four rebounds and four blocks in 20 minutes of relief off the bench. Canton's bench supplied 40 of their 90 points and the Charge outrebounded the Red Claws 48-37 in the game.
On assignment from the Boston Celtics, the Red Claws' Kris Joseph led all scorers with 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting with five rebounds and three steals in 37 minutes. Shelvin Mack added a double-double of 18 points and 10 assists with five rebounds and three steals in 40 minutes. The Red Claws forced 21 turnovers, including 11 steals, for 28 points. In the second and fourth quarters combined, Maine outscored Canton 63-45. Six Red Claws scored in double figures tonight.
The Charge will return to Canton for three home games in four nights, beginning with a matchup against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Wednesday, December 12th at 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Civic Center. Wednesday will be College I.D. Night presented by CSE Federal Credit Union, where students can get a $5 ticket with any valid college student identification card.
