Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release
EL SEGUNDO, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders lost their second straight game to the Santa Cruz Warriors, dropping a 99-93 contest at Toyota Sports Center on Saturday night.
Trailing by 12 points at halftime, Los Angeles (2-4) trimmed the deficit down to five as they entered the final frame. However, the D-Fenders were limited to just 37.5 percent shooting in the fourth quarter, allowing the Warriors to leave El Segundo with a weekend sweep.
The D-Fenders were led by a two-player scoring combination of Darius Johnson-Odom (27 points [11-21 FG], 6 rebounds, 3 steals) and Orien Greene (25 points [8-15 FG], 3 steals). Additionally, Gary Flowers contributed 10 points and eight rebounds and Jarrid Famous tallied 10 points and seven rebounds for the D-Fenders, who have now lost four straight games. Despite four players recording 10-plus points, the D-Fenders shot just 41.2 percent compared to 50.6 percent for the Warriors.
Travis Leslie paced Santa Cruz (4-1) on Saturday night as he totaled 23 points (10-14 FG) and eight rebounds. Five other Warriors finished with double-digit scoring efforts, including Taylor Griffin (18 points, 15 rebounds), Stefhon Hannah (14 points, 7 assists), Cameron Jones (14 points), Maurice Baker (11 points) and Justin Johnson (10 points). The Warriors also won the rebounding battle, grabbing 53 boards and limiting the D-Fenders to just 38 rebounds.
Los Angeles resumes its five-game home stand next Thursday against the Reno Bighorns (NBA affiliate: Memphis, Sacramento, Utah). Last season, the D-Fenders posted an impressive 7-1 record versus Reno. Tip-off is slated for 7 pm at Toyota Sports Center.
