Tulsa 66ers News Release
TULSA, Okla., December 9, 2012 - The Tulsa 66ers topped the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 85-81, on Sunday at the SpiritBank Event Center behind Jeremy Lamb's 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
Lamb, currently on assignment from the Oklahoma City Thunder, scored 13 fourth-quarter points by shooting 5-for-7 from the field to help secure the Tulsa win.
Fellow Oklahoma City assignee Daniel Orton finished with his third double-double of the season, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The 66ers (5-2) trailed 44-34 at halftime before outscoring Rio Grande Valley (2-5) in the third quarter, 28-14. Forward Dominique Sutton fuelled the rally with 13 points on the night, all of which came in the third quarter.
Tulsa Head Coach Darko Rajakovic credits the team's defense for the second-half turnaround.
"At halftime we talked about our defense and how we needed to be more patient on the offensive end," said Rajakovic. "We were outrebounded in the first half and our guys did an amazing job in the second half. I think that it's because of our defensive effort and our rebounding we had a chance to bounce back and win this game."
After surrendering 21 and 23 points respectively in the first two quarters, the 66ers held Rio Grande Valley to 14 third-quarter points and outrebounded the Vipers 13-5 in the frame.
Tulsa forced a season-high 26 turnovers, including 13 on steals. The 66ers also dished out 19 assists and blocked six shots.
Rio Grande Valley was led by center Tim Ohlrecht, who totaled 28 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Fellow Viper Mike Singletary added 25 points and six boards.
Sunday's matchup was the third time in four days that the 66ers and Vipers faced off and Tulsa's fourth game in five days. The 66ers return to action with a pair of road games against the Bakersfield Jam on Friday and Saturday.
