Road Warriors Lose in Shootouts against Gladiators

Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors comeback did not hold as the Gladiators took control of the final moments of the game wining in shootouts 5-4 on Teddy Bear Toss Night.
The Gladiators jumped out to an early two goal lead in the first period with markers from Andy Brandt and Ryan Donald. Brandt began the scoring with a quick shot that picked Nathan Lieuwen glove high. Greenville fired 14 shots on net with multiple scoring chances but Louis Domingue rejected the waves of plays.
T.J. Reynolds scored his first goal of the season which brought the teddy bears to the ice at 7:31 into the second period. Brandt scored his second goal of the game 3:09 later to bring the Gladiators back to a two goal lead.
Greenville came out flying in the third period scoring a goal 3:45 in from Andrew Yogan. Yogan beat Dominque short side coming in on a partial break. He would score his second of the game 3:56 later getting a pass in the slot and firing in his third of the year to tie the game. Kenndal McArdle would tally one more as the Road Warriors continued an onslaught on Gwinnett. McArdle scored his sixth of the season banking in a rebound after Marc-Olivier Vallerand hit the post. Jeremy Gouchie and Brendan Connolly both took penalties in the final three minutes. The Gladiators went on a 5-3 powerplay and scored with a Dallas Jackson slapshot, his sixth of the year. The goal would force overtime which continued the stalemate into shootouts.
Doug Jones and Casey Pierro-Zabotel would score against Lieuwen, who allowed his first shootout goal of the year. The only Road Warrior to convert was Vallerand as Greenville lost the shootouts 2-1 and the game 5-4. Lieuwen took the loss stopping 28 of 32 shots. Domingue was the winning goalie saving 37 of 41 shots.
The Road Warriors will finish out the home and home series tomorrow night in Gwinnett at 7:05 p.m.
The weekend will conclude on Sunday as the Road Warriors host the South Carolina Stingrays at 4 p.m. The Road Warriors will don their third jerseys, featuring the colors and style of their NHL affiliate; the New York Rangers, for the second time this year.
