Pats defeat Royals
November 18, 2012 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release
First Period
After the high energy of the previous night's games for both the Pats and Royals it took a bit for the players to get their legs under them. Both squads had two powerplays in the frame, but came up empty on the opportunities. Teagan Sacher made eight saves in the Pats goal as the score remained 0-0 after one period of play.
Second Period
Things picked up in the middle period as the Royals opened up with a powerplay goal off the stick of Tyler Stahl on a backdoor one-timer. The Royals continued to pepper Sacher, but the rookie netminder held his team in it and they rewarded him with some goal support. First, Colten Mayor launched a seeing-eye shot that found its way behind Victoria goaltender Patrik Polivka to tie the game. Then in the final minute of the period, Adam Rossignol jammed home a rebound after Jack Rodewald attempted a quick wraparound. Rossignol's marker sent the Pats to the third period with the 2-1 lead.
Third Period
The final period saw the Pats holding on for dear life against a relentless Victoria Royals team. The Pats were without Alex Theriau and for a period of time, Luke Fenske. After blocking a shot, Fenske headed to the dressing room, but would return and that would be key. With 2:32 remaining in the contest, the Royals finally found a way behind Sacher when Jordan Fransoo followed up snapping a rebound into the goal to tie the game. The contest wouldn't make it to overtime, though as Morgan Klimchuk went to work down low and eventually broke free on a give and go with Colby Williams. The Pats sniper danced into the slot and fired home the game winning goal with only 25 seconds left in the contest for the Pats to steal a 3-2 win in Victoria. Luke Fenske picked up the second assist on Klimchuk's winner to tally his third assist in the game.
