Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club would like to congratulate rookies Jake Virtanen and Josh Thrower on being named two of 22 players that will represent Team Pacific at the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, Dec. 29, 2012 to Jan. 4, 2013 in Victoriaville/Drummondville, Quebec.

Team Pacific is comprised of 11 players from British Columbia and 11 players from Alberta. Each province held a provincial camp over the summer to identify a set number of players to evaluate during the first part of the 2012-13 campaign.

"It's great recognition and we're happy for both Jake and Josh," commented Hitmen Head Coach Mike Williamson. "They are top players in their age level and this is a great opportunity for them to go and compete at the tournament."

Virtanen, the first overall pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft, has recorded four goals over 18 games this season. Thrower, Calgary's second-round pick (23rd overall) in 2011, has one goal and three assists for four points in 13 games.

The tournament is made up of 10 teams; five from Canada - Quebec, Ontario, Pacific (Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Yukon), Atlantic (New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island) and West (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut) and five international teams.

Forward Greg Chase represented Team Pacific at the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Windsor, Ontario where he tallied six points (one goal, five assists) over five games.
