Whitecaps FC Striker Darren Mattocks Named Finalist for 2012 Rookie of the Year Award

November 15, 2012 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release

VANCOUVER, BC - Major League Soccer announced today that Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Darren Mattocks is one of three finalists for the 2012 MLS Rookie of the Year award. The finalists were determined by votes from MLS players, technical staffs and front offices, as well as media members.

The University of Akron product, who was selected with the second overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, helped Whitecaps FC become the first Canadian club to reach the MLS Cup Playoffs.

The 22-year-old Jamaican international led the second year MLS club, as well as all MLS rookies, with seven goals - including two game-winners - and registered one assist in 21 regular season appearances. Mattocks also scored in both the 2012 Amway Canadian Championship and MLS Cup Playoffs.

In addition to being a finalist for the Rookie of the Year award, earlier this season Mattocks was named the best MLS player under the age of 24 in MLSsoccer.com's '24 under 24' list.

Chicago Fire defender Austin Berry and D.C. United midfielder Nick DeLeon were also named finalists for the Rookie of the Year award, with the winner to be revealed on Monday, November 19.

Whitecaps FC 2013 Major League Soccer season tickets start at $349, plus applicable tax and a $10 processing fee per order.
