FRISCO, Texas (Monday, Nov. 12, 2012) - Blas Pérez, Carlos Rodriguez and Richard Sanchez have been called in to represent their respective national teams, FC Dallas announced today.
"It's an honor for us to play Spain in Panama," said Pérez. "I'm excited about playing the World Cup champions. The most important thing is getting more experience playing against some of the best in the world. I'm looking forward to proving Panama is getting bigger in soccer and having a good game."
Pérez and Rodriguez recently joined Panama to prepare for their match against 2010 FIFA World Cup Champions, Spain. Panama will host Spain at Rommel Fernandez Stadium on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
Despite missing 12 matches this season, Pérez led FC Dallas with nine goals. He ranked 16th in the league in goals scored per 90 minutes played (.48 GPG) and finished 10th in the Castrol Index rankings for the 2012 regular season. Rodriguez, 22, played in 24 games for FC Dallas in 2012, scoring one goal.
Sanchez also departed Dallas over the weekend. The 18-year-old goalkeeper will train with the Mexican U-20 National Team through Monday, Nov. 19. The U-20s are scheduled to face USL PRO side L.A. Blues in California on Nov. 16 and Nov. 18.
The sixth Homegrown player in FC Dallas history, Sanchez backstopped the Mexican Under-17 National Team to a 2-0 victory over Uruguay at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on July 10, 2011. Sanchez, who recently resigned with FC Dallas through the 2015 season, served as FC Dallas' backup goalkeeper for six MLS matches in 2012. This is the fourth time Sanchez has been called in to represent the Mexican U-20 National Team in 2012.
