Atlanta Gladiators News Release


The Gwinnett Gladiators ended their week on the road with a 4-3-1-0 record. The Gladiators started the week in 5th in the South Division and ranked 11th in the Eastern Conference. They have now moved up to 1st in the South Division and 3rd in the Eastern Conference within the last week and currently have nine points on the year.

Thursday, 11/1: Game vs. Orlando Solar Bears @7:05p.m.

Game Preview: The Orlando Solar Bears are currently ranked second in the South Division and 7th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 3-1-1-1. The Solar Bears are playing their first season as an ECHL team. The Solar Bears are led by top scorer Nick Peterson who has 14 points (six goals, eight assists) this season in six games. Goalie John Curry has earned a 0.895 save percentage while with Orlando.

Saturday, 11/3: Game vs. Elmira Jackals @7:05 p.m.

Game Preview: Last season the Elmira Jackals ended in first place in the Atlantic Division and first overall in the Eastern Conference. The last time Gwinnett met the Jackals, the Gladiators posted a 4-1 win as Gwinnett went 2-0-1 last season against Elmira. The Jackals are led by forward Dustin Gazley who has earned 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in six games while goalie Marc Cheverie has played in four games and has earned a save percent of 0.953.

Sunday, 11/4: Game vs. South Carolina Stingrays @4:05 p.m.

Game Preview: The Gladiators will be playing the South Carolina Stingrays again after dropping a 3-4 loss during their first game of the season. The Stingrays have a record of 3-4-0-0 and have slipped to fifth in the South Division. They are led by rookie goalies Shawn Hunwick and Adam Morrison. Rookie forward Andrew Cherniwchan and forward Tyler McNeely both have eight points.

Wednesday October 24: Gwinnett 3, Evansville 0 - W

"ªThe Gwinnett Gladiators began the week on the road against the Evansville IceMen in the first match up of ever between the two teams. Gladiators goalie Mike Lee made 17 saves to post the first shutout win of the season for Gwinnett. Rylan Galiardi also scored two goals.

Friday October 26: Gwinnett 4, Fort Wayne 2 - W

The Gladiators won their second game of the road trip as they posted a 4-2 against the Fort Wayne Komets in Fort Wayne, IN. Gwinnett outshot the Komets 37 to 20. Evan Bloodoff scored his first two goals of the season in the first period. Doug Jones notched the game-winning goal at 7:15 of the second period.

Saturday October 27: Fort Wayne 1, Gwinnett 0 - L

The Fort Wayne Komets defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators in the second meeting in Fort Wayne, IN. Josh Brittain score the only goal of the game 16:44 into the first period and the score held for the remainder of the game.

Sunday October 28: Gwinnett 5, Evansville 2 - W

Gwinnett ended the four game road trip in Evansville, IN where they took home a third win of the week and second victory against the Evansville IceMen. Dallas Jackson notched the first goal of the game and his first goal of the season at 5:15 in the first. The score was tied until Chris Clackson posted a power play goal in the second that put the Gladiators on top. Tyler Murovich scored the final goal of the game with assist from Clackson and Evan Bloodoff at 18:54 of the third.

News & Notes:

Between the Pipes: Goalie Ryan Zapolski has returned to the Gwinnett Gladiators for his season debut on October 28 against Evansville on the road. Zapolski saved 29 out of 31 shots during his first game and has a save percent of 0.935. Goalie Mike Lee has been doing just as well in the six games he has played as he as earned a 0.916 save percent as he posted 2.17 goals against average this season. While on the road, Mike Lee played in three games and helped with a shutout win on Wednesday October 24 in Evansville, IN against the IceMen.

Rookie Leader: Marietta, Georgia native Doug Jones has been the rookie leader on the season for the Gwinnett Gladiators. Jones has scored 10 points (five goals, five assists) in eight games played this season. While on the road this week, Jones racked up two goals and two assists. Jones leads ECHL rookies in goals and points.

Top 15: Forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel has been ranked second among leading scorers for the ECHL so far this season. Zabotel has earned 12 points (two goals, eight assists) in eight games played. Last season the Ashcroft, BC native played for the Bakersfield Condors and earned 35 points (eight goals, 27 assists) in 71 games. Zabotel ended the season in the top five among skaters for the Condors.

Bloodoff: Last week the Gwinnett Gladiators added forward Evan Bloodoff to their roster as he was assigned from AHL Portland. Evan Bloodoff went on the road with the Gladiators this week and scored twice in his second game of the season as a Gladiator. Bloodoff picked up his first two goals in Fort Wayne, IN against the Komets leading the Gladiatiors to a 4-2 vicotry. The Nelson, BC native also picked up two assists in four games on the road. Bloodoff played last season with the Portland Pirates and earned eight points (six goals, two assists) in 48 games.

Orlando Solar Bears: The Gwinnett Gladiators are set the face the Orlando Solar Bears in six of their next 11 games. Three will be hosted at the Arena at Gwinnett Center while the other three will be on the road at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Despite it being the Solar Bears first ECHL season they have maintained a record of 3-1-1-1 and rank second in the South Division behind the first place Gladiators.
