St. John's IceCaps News Release
ST. JOHN'S, NL - Eddie Pasquale made 32 saves to lead the St. John's IceCaps to a 2-1 victory over the Adirondack Phantoms in their home opener Friday night at Mile One Centre.
The sophomore netminder was in fine form all game long in picking up his first win of the season, making big saves down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Travis Ramsey scored the game-winning goal in the third period while Max Macenauer notched his second tally of the season in the win. Scott Munroe stopped 25 shots for Adirondack in the loss.
The IceCaps struck first midway through the opening frame on a goal by Macenauer. After a nice play by Zach Redmond to keep the IceCaps onside, Dean Arsene fed Redmond at the right point, who blasted a slap shot that was deflected deftly by Macenauer and past Munroe for a 1-0 IceCaps lead.
Things got heated late in the first period when Spencer Machacek and Cullen Eddy dropped the gloves in a spirited tilt that saw both players land some solid blows.
The Phantoms tied the game at 12:35 of the second frame on an even-strength goal by Andrew Johnston. Matthew Ford circled the net and found Eric Wellwood entering the slot. Wellwood's slap shot was redirected by Johnston and into the back of the net to tie it at one.
The winning goal came at the 9:11 mark of the third frame. Jason King fed a streaking Ben Maxwell, who made a nifty move around a defender on the left side and found Ramsey pinching towards the net on the other side. The defenceman redirected the puck through Munroe to put the home side on top for good 2-1.
Neither team could muster anything with the man advantage. Both St. John's and Adirondack went 0-for-5 on the power play.
