Grizzlies Beat Idaho 3-1 in Logan Preseason Game

Logan, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Idaho Steelheads 3-1 Friday night in Logan, Utah in their preseason opener.

Utah scored three-straight goals to finish the contest after falling behind 1-0 1:05 into the game.

Kory Falite tied the game 4:50 into the first period on a power-play goal assisted by Jeff Buvinow and Ryan Watson. The Grizzlies outshot Idaho 12-2 in the first period as the frame ended tied at one.

Utah took a 2-1 lead 16 seconds into the second period as Chris Donovan picked up a turnover in the Idaho end and centered Denny Kearney in front for the goal.

The Grizzlies made it 3-1 4:12 into the second period as Justin Daniels won a faceoff and Buvinow blasted in a shot from the point. August Aiken recorded an assist as well.

The Grizzlies outshot Idaho 30-24 in the game, going 1-4 on the power-play and 4-4 on the penalty-kill.

Goaltender Ryan Donovan kept the 3-1 score intact in the third period by stopping all 13 shots that he saw. Starter Troy Davenport earned the win, stopping 10 of 11 Idaho shots in the first two periods.

The two teams complete their preseason schedule Saturday in Boise at 7:10 p.m.

Utah and Idaho open the season with another home-and-home series next weekend to open the regular season starting Friday in Boise. The Grizzlies home opener is Saturday, October 13 at 7:05 p.m. at Maverik Center. Visit utahgrizzlies.com for ticket information.
