Attendance Once Again Strong at Shaw Park

WINNIPEG - Fans of the Winnipeg Goldeyes continue to pack Shaw Park at a league-leading rate.The 2012 American Association Champion Winnipeg Goldeyes once again led the American Association with an average attendance of 5,705. Winnipeg finished second overall in average attendance amongst the 49 independent professional baseball teams in 2012. Only the expansion Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League in their brand new ballpark drew more fans per game than the Goldeyes.
"Once again we continue to be supported by the best fans in minor league baseball," Goldeyes GM Andrew Collier said. "The American Association has 12 other strong franchises. To lead the league in attendance again is an accomplishment everyone in Winnipeg can celebrate."
The Goldeyes were one of only five independent teams to average more than 5,000 fans a game in 2012 and finished 32nd overall in minor league baseball average attendance, which comprises 388 teams in independent, affiliated, summer collegiate and Mexican leagues.
During the regular season, the Goldeyes drew 285,620 fans for 50 home games, which marks the third straight season the team has increased its total attendance. It is the highest total attendance figure since the 2007 season.
In the playoffs, Winnipeg posted an average attendance of 5,342 through three home games.
When you combined exhibition, regular season and playoff games, 307,472 fans came to Shaw Park to watch Goldeyes baseball in 2012.
The Goldeyes achievements on and off the field will be recognized by the city of Winnipeg at tomorrow's city council meeting.
