Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
SIOUX FALLS-The Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants are pleased to announce that they were one of just five teams in all of professional minor league baseball to increase their attendance by more than 65 percent this season, according to Ballpark Digest. The Pheasants saw a 72 percent increase in their attendance from 2011 to 2012.
The Pheasants ranked 23 out of 49 independent teams in average attendance in 2012, averaging 2,466 fans per game. The club finished 141st out of all 388 professional minor league teams in average attendance. In 2011, Sioux Falls averaged 1,562 fans.
"This is something we should all be proud about," stated Pheasants CEO and President Tom Garrity. "The city of Sioux Falls, our fans and our corporate sponsors should all be proud of what was accomplished this past season. We couldn't have done it without the support of everyone, and I think we proved that professional baseball can work in Sioux Falls. We certainly want to build off this heading into next season," added Garrity.
The Pheasants had their first sellout in nearly four years on July 16 when 4,862 fans watched the Pheasants battle Fargo-Moorhead. The club finished with a strong month of August with an average crowd of 3,124. In the final weekend home series of the year, the Pheasants drew crowds of 4,197, 3,502 and 4,050 respectively.
