York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution swept a day-night doubleheader, winning the nightcap 7-1 against the Somerset Patriots on Saturday evening in front of 6,848 fans, the largest crowd of the season at Sovereign Bank Stadium, and eighth largest in stadium history. The win sets the Revs' all-time single-season record with 74 victories on the season, now a season-high 15 games over .500 at 74-59. The Revs will go for the four-game sweep on Sunday in the regular season home finale at 2 p.m., while scoreboard watching as they await the mathematical clinching of a postseason berth, needing just a Lancaster win over Southern Maryland, or a Sugar Land loss in Bridgeport to officially punch their ticket.

The Revs grabbed a quick lead on a two-run double down the left field line by Chris Nowak in the bottom of the first inning, giving the league's RBI leader 101 runs batted in for the season, within four of matching York's single-season team record. He is within two of matching his career-high for RBI in a season, as he has notched the second 100-RBI season of his pro career.

The Revs distanced themselves from the Patriots with a four-run third inning, building a 6-0 lead. Brandon Haveman ignited the rally with a double to right-center, extending his hitting streak to 10 consecutive games. David Espinosa then ripped an RBI double along the right field line, Joe Thurston smacked an RBI singled up the middle, and Andres Perez teed off on a two-run homer to left, his 23rd of the season, fourth most in Revs history, punctuating the outburst.

Revs starter Ryan Feierabend (8-5) retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced in the game, taking a one-hit shutout into the fifth. A walk and two singles left him in a bases loaded no-out jam in the fifth inning, but the only run allowed by Feierabend all night came on a walk to Joe Holden with one out, forcing in Somerset's lone score. Feierabend settled back in and worked 7.0 innings to earn the win, allowing just five hits and striking out six.

York recouped that run in the bottom of the fifth when Thurston led off with a double to right-center and scored on a throwing error by third baseman Jeff Nettles with two outs.

Patriots starter Adam Champion (0-2) took the loss, allowing all seven York runs (six earned) in 5.0 innings of work.

Revs relievers Adam Thomas and Yunior Novoa each logged scoreless innings to finish off the win.

Notes: Nowak was honored before the game as the Revs' 2012 Player of the Year, and Thomas was recognized as the team's Community Player of the Year. Perez tied a team record for total bases in a season with 266. Thomas' appearance was his league-leading 66th of the year, within four of matching the Revs' and Atlantic League's single-season record of 70 (Ronnie Morales, 2011). The Revs are now 13-6 against Somerset for the season, their best record ever against the Patriots. York is 8-1 at home against Somerset in the season series. Feierabend is now 4-0 in four starts against the Patriots, having allowed just three runs in 27.2 innings. York has won four consecutive games, five straight home games, and 13 of the last 17 contests overall. The Revs will send Corey Thurman (13-3, 4.05) to the mound in Sunday's finale as the righty is in search of breaking his own club record with a 14th victory on the season, opposite Somerset's Justin Cassel (6-9, 3.37). It is Fan Appreciation Day, featuring a tribute to retiring field manager Andy Etchebarren as part of the pregame ceremonies. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
