York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution defeated the Somerset Patriots 8-7 in the opener of Saturday's day-night doubleheader to tie their club record with their 73rd win of the season, in front of 3,774 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs will host the Patriots again at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.
York (73-59) is now a season-high 14 games over .500, having won 12 of the last 16 games overall. The Revs continue to wait for Sugar Land's elimination from the division race to officially clinch their playoff berth, as the Skeeters' tragic number stands at two upon conclusion of York's opening game.
The Revs came from behind for the ninth time in their last ten victories, as Somerset took leads in the first and second innings.
Yunesky Sanchez homered to left field in the top of the first to spot the Patriots the early advantage, but York came back to tie it right away on an Andres Perez sacrifice fly to left.
A two-out rally in the second culminated in a two-run double to right by Johnny Tucker to lift Somerset ahead 3-1, but the Revs responded by taking the lead for good in their half of the inning.
After Somerset starter Chase Wright (4-3) walked the bases loaded with one out, Jeff Fiorentino crossed the plate on a passed ball by Yusuf Carter for the first run in a four-run inning. A fourth consecutive walk reloaded the bases, and Brandon Haveman tied the score at 3-3 on an RBI fielder's choice. Joe Thurston then followed with a two-run triple off the right field fence, giving York a 5-3 lead. It was a pinch-hit triple for Thurston, who was forced into the game in place of starting designated hitter Michael Hernandez who exited with an injury.
Colin Curtis came across on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth, cutting York's lead to 5-4, but Revs starter Derrick Gordon (4-3) rebounded to strike out Carter for the final out of the fifth, stranding two in scoring position to maintain the lead and earn the win.
York added runs on an RBI single by David Espinosa in the fifth, and again in the seventh on an RBI double to left by Salomon Manriquez who extended his hitting streak to 11 consecutive games in his only official at-bat, after walking in his first three plate appearances. Fiorentino drove in the Revs' final run in the eighth on a pop-up at shortstop that was lost in the sunlight, resulting in an infield single.
Sanchez provided Somerset with its final run on a sacrifice fly to right in the top of the ninth.
The Revs totaled only seven hits but took advantage of 12 walks, tying the club record for walks in a game.
York is now 12-6 against Somerset for the season, having won seven of the eight meetings at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
York's Ryan Feierabend (7-5, 3.03) will face Somerset's Adam Champion (0-0, 6.00) in Saturday's nightcap at 6:30 p.m. It is High School Spirit Night presented by OSS, featuring Post Game Fireworks presented by Sprint. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
