Texas Stars Foundation Announces 2012 Grant Recipients

CEDAR PARK, TX - The Texas Stars Foundation announced today the list of recipients for the inaugural 2012 Texas Stars Foundation Grants.

This year's Foundation Grants totaled $46,000 and were awarded to eleven different local charities. The inaugural class of grant recipients are: Central Texas Ability Sports, Sammy's House, Hope Alliance, Open My World Therapeutic Riding Center, Reveal Resource Center/Hill Country Nazarene Church, STARRY, Inc., Autism Society of Greater Austin, Helping Hands Home for Children, Young Women and Men of Destiny, Friends of the Georgetown Public Library, and Round Rock Public Library.

"We are thrilled to be establishing this annual grant program to expand our support of organizations in the Central Texas region," said Texas Stars president and Texas Stars Foundation chairman of the board Rick McLaughlin. "All of these worthy recipients are deeply rooted in providing outstanding services to our local community."

All of these charitable organizations are located in the greater Central Texas area and the grant money they received from the Texas Stars Foundation will go towards a wide array of programs and projects that will directly affect over 20,000 area children. They include building an organic garden to help teach self-subsistence for children in foster care and emergency shelters, helping to complete the first ever special needs Ability Field in Williamson County and creating a pilot program to teach science to children with special needs.

The application period for the 2013 Texas Stars Foundation Grants should open in early 2013.

The Texas Stars Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the community through the impact of professional sports. Formed in the summer of 2010, the Texas Stars Foundation is the official charity of the Texas Stars' management and players. By encouraging teamwork, interaction and education, the Texas Stars Foundation strives to enrich the greater Central Texas area.

Through its first two years of operation, the Texas Stars Foundation has supported more than 480 community programs and charitable organizations with donations in excess of $250,000. Major beneficiaries include but are not limited to: Austin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure(r), Cedar Park Veterans Memorial, 100 Club of Central Texas, Human Society of Williamson County, Williamson County Animal Shelter, Heroes Night Out and Austin Disaster Relief Network.

The Stars open the 2012-13 AHL season on Saturday, October 13th at San Antonio and their home opener comes on Sunday, October 14th as they host the Charlotte Checkers for a 7:00 pm face off at Cedar Park Center. 2012-13 season seat packages are on sale now.
