
IronBirds Blanked in Season Finale

BURLINGTON, VT - In the final game of the 2012 season, the IronBirds fell to the Vermont Lake Monsters, 4-0. The Lake Monsters plated a run in the third, one in the sixth, and two unearned runs in the eighth inning en route to the victory. The IronBirds finished the 2012 campaign with a 28-48 record.
LHP Jorge Rivera took the hill for the IronBirds on Wednesday night at Centennial Field. Rivera tossed a gem but ended up with the loss on the night. In the third inning, Rivera walked Booker and Robertson to lead off the inning. Rivera then hit Brett Vertigan to load the bases. 3B Jacob Tanis stepped to the plate next and grounded into a double play. Booker scored on the play to put the Lake Monsters on the board.
Rivera exited Wednesday night's contest after fifth inning. Over five innings of work, Rivera allowed one run on no hits while walking three and striking out eight. His eight strikeouts matched a career-high.
Vermont plated another in the sixth inning off RHP Mark Blackmar. CF Brett Vertigan singled to right-center to begin the frame. Later in the frame, Matt Olson hit a bloop base hit into left that scored Vertigan.
The Lake Monsters plated a pair of unearned runs in the eighth to cap off the scoring for the night.
Offensively, C Sam Kimmel finished the night 2-for-4 with a triple.
Seth Streich (4-1) notched the win in the season finale while Jorge Rivera (1-3) got the tough luck loss.
The IronBirds finished up the 2012 season with a 28-48 record.
