York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution used a pair of bunt singles and took advantage of two errors to rally for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, defeating the Long Island Ducks 5-2 in front of 4,814 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Saturday evening. The Revs increase their Wild Card lead to 6.5 games, while staying within 4.5 games of first place in the Freedom Division. York will go for the series sweep on Sunday afternoon with first pitch set for 1 p.m.

The Revs went ahead early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. After a one-out single to left from Chris Nowak, Michael Hernandez doubled to left-center to put two runners in scoring position. Travis Scott then blooped a two-run single to shallow right-center to extend his hitting streak to eight consecutive games, while spotting York a 2-0 lead.

Those were the only two runs afforded by Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann, who lasted seven strong innings in a no-decision, retiring the final eight batters that he faced.

Revs starter Corey Thurman took a shutout into the sixth inning before Kraig Binick led off the frame with a home run to left, making it a 2-1 game.

Reliever Kris Regas struck out Timo Perez looking to end the sixth stranding a pair of runners, and recorded the first two outs of the seventh, but Long Island scored an unearned run off righty Stephen Penney to tie the score, as a two-out error and a Binick infield single preceded a game-tying single to left by Bryant Nelson, deadlocking things at 2-2.

The Revs responded with the decisive rally in the bottom of the eighth against Ducks reliever Eric Niesen (2-2). Scott Grimes drew a four-pitch walk and Brandon Haveman legged out a bunt single to set the table. Jeff Fiorentino then bunted for a hit, and Grimes scored when catcher Mitch Canham's throw sailed down the first base line. Joe Thurston drove in Haveman on a ground out to second, and Fiorentino scored the final run on a fielder's choice at third when Nelson's throw to the plate bounced away.

R.J. Rodriguez (1-3) earned the win in relief for the Revs with a 1-2-3 eighth inning. Ricardo Gomez fired a scoreless ninth for his 11th save, tying Rodriguez for the team lead this season and for third most in a season in Revs history, as the duo becomes the first tandem to each save at least 11 games in a single season in club history.

Thurman allowed just one run in 5.2 innings, taking the no-decision.

Notes: Thurman was denied a chance at his 12th win of the season and 50th of his Revs career, exiting with a lead that later was given up by the bullpen for a third consecutive start... he has allowed just three runs combined in 23.2 innings over his last four starts, with three of those starts occurring against Long Island (combined two runs in 17.2 innings in those three starts against the Ducks)... the Revs improve to 11-8 against Long Island for the season, including 7-2 at home, having won each of their last seven home games against the Ducks... the Revs are now 6-0 all-time on Wedding Night at Sovereign Bank Stadium... York will go for its fourth series sweep of the season on Sunday with lefty Chris Waters (4-6, 4.73) facing Long Island's Chris Hayes (3-3, 5.40) at 1 p.m... there is a Pre-Game full-team autograph session and catch on the field presented by Runkle's Notary & Insurance, along with Post-Game Kids Run the Bases... tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
