Game #134 - Sunday, August 26, 2012

Hadlock Field - Portland, ME - 1:00 PM

LAST GAME: Darin Gorski matched a season-high with nine strikeouts and surrendered only one run to lead the Binghamton Mets past the Portland Sea Dogs in a 5-1 win last night at Hadlock Field. The B-Mets racked up ten hits, including a two-run homer by Reese Havens, to snap Portland's six-game winning streak. After allowing a run in the first inning, Gorski did not let another runner reach third base, retiring 12 straight Sea Dogs from the second to sixth inning. Allan Dykstra tied the game with an RBI double against Drake Britton in the second and scored the go-ahead run later in the inning. Havens added insurance by blasting a two-run shot off Will Latimer in the sixth. Gorski went 7-2/3 innings in the win, the third in his last four starts.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Greg Peavey (7-8, 5.12) makes his 24th start of the season and fifth against the Sea Dogs. Peavey earned the win in his last start against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on August 21, his first victory in five starts against the club. He struck out a season-high six while scattering six hits over seven shutout innings. In four starts versus Portland, Peavey has gone 2-1 with a 5.49 ERA. Over 19-2/3 innings, he has allowed a .316 batting average.

RHP Jeremy Kehrt (7-3, 4.07) takes the mound for his 13th start of the season and fifth appearance against the B-Mets. Kehrt has earned five wins in his last eight starts, going unbeaten during the stretch. He took a no-decision in his last game against the New Britain Rock Cats on August 21. The former reliever allowed two runs on five his and three walks over five innings. In four appearances, including one start, Kehrt has gone 1-0 and compiled a 2.16 ERA versus Binghamton. Over 16-2/3 innings, he has allowed a .348 batting average. A 47th-round selection in 2008, Kehrt is in his fifth year with the Red Sox organization.

STREAKINGN ALONG: Wilmer Flores stretched his hitting streak to six games with his seventh three-hit game as a B-Met. The infielder is hitting .500 (11-for-22) during the stretch that includes six doubles, two home runs, seven runs scored and five RBI. He is hitting a team-best .357 (30-for-84) in 22 games in the month of August.

FANNING THEM AWAY: Darin Gorski racked up nine strikeouts for the second straight time this season. The 18 strikeouts over a two-start span are the second-most he has collected in back-to-back games in his career. He struck out 19 over two games with the St. Lucie Mets (High-A) in May 2011.

LONG TIME COMING: The B-Mets out-hit the Sea Dogs by a 10-7 tally last night. It was the first time had out-hit an opponent since August 15, when they trumped the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 11-10.

LITTLE LEAGUE CONNETION: Today's B-Mets starter Greg Peavey pitched for Hazel Dell Little League (Vancouver, WA) that made it to Williamsport, PA for the 2000 Little League World Series. The team finished one win short of the US Championship game.

MORE LITTLE LEAGUE TIES: B-Mets catcher Francisco Pena was a member of the Bronx, NY Little League team that played in Williamsport in the 2001 World Series.

CHANCE FOR A RECORD: A win today by the B-Mets would be their 13th this season against the Portland Sea Dogs. It would be the most wins the B-Mets have ever had in one season against the Sea Dogs. They beat Portland 12 times in 1994, 1996 and 2003.

DWINDLING DOWN: A win last night by the Reading Phillies reduced Binghamton's elimination number down to three.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets travel to Reading, PA for their final road series of the season. Their four-game set against the second-place R-Phils begins tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon takes on RHP Trevor May.
