Lake County Captains News Release
(Dayton, OH) - The Lake County Captains (27-23, 58-61) beat the Dayton Dragons (21-28, 51-68) by a final of 7-0 at Fifth Third Field on Wednesday Night. Lake County used a four run third inning to jump-start the scoring. Jordan Smith singled home a run and Jerred Saborin singled home his second run of the ballgame at that time the score was 3-0 Lake County. The big hit in the inning was the second career triple by Jake Lowery and that cleared the bases. Lake County led the ballgame 5-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth inning. The Captains have now thrown five shutouts on the season.
Lake County scored a run in the opening frame. Jose Ramirez singled to right field to begin the game, and later scored on the Jerrud Sabourin single and the Captains were ahead early 1-0. The RBI was the first of two on the night for Sabourin.
Lake County added a run in the fourth inning. Leonardo Castillo singled to left field to begin the inning. Alex Lavisky promptly doubled to deep right-center field and Castillo hustled around from first base to score and the Captains led the game 6-0.
Lake County added a run in the ninth when Jordan Smith had his second RBI of the ballgame. Jose Ramirez singled with one out and moved to second when Francisco Lindor was hit by a pitch. Smith promptly singled to center field and Ramirez scored. Lake County led 7-0. That was the final score.
LHP Shawn Morimando (6-4) started the ballgame for the Captains and earned the win. Morimando pitched six innings. Shawn allowed just two hits and one hit batter. Morimando did not allow a run and fanned six. Nick Pasquale came into the ballgame for Lake County in the bottom of the seventh inning. Pasquale pitched two innings, allowing three hits and two strikeouts. Antwonie Hubbard pitched the ninth for Lake County
RHP Jacob Johnson (1-5) started the ballgame for Dayton and took the loss. Johnson pitched just four innings, he yielded six runs, five earned. Johnson allowed seven hits and one walk. Johnson struck out one and hit one batter. Carlos Gonzalez entered in relief for the Dragons. Gonzalez pitched two scoreless innings walking one and fanning three. Jimmy Moran entered in the seventh inning for the Dragons. Moran pitched two shut out innings and allowed one walk and fanned two. Lucas O'Rear entered in the ninth inning for Dayton, and allowed the final run to score.
The Captains will remain in Dayton, Ohio on Thursday to take on the Dragons. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM. Lake County will start LHP Danny Jimenez (1-2, 4.84) and he will take on RHP Radhames Quezada (5-7, 3.30) of the Dayton Dragons. This is the middle game of a three game set.
