Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - Iowa lost 2-1 for a second straight night to Reno on Monday at Principal Park. In his 13th start for Iowa this season, Frankie De La Cruz surrendered just one run on five hits in five innings of work. The righty walked three and fanned four Aces.

Trevor Bauer outdueled De La Cruz, hurling six shutout innings, striking out five and walking two on five hits. A Ryan Budde single that snuck through the 5-6 hole plated A.J. Pollock to give Reno a 1-0 advantage in the fourth.

Tony Campana had thievery on his mind, stealing two bases in his return to Principal Park. Blake Parker tossed a perfect inning of relief with a strikeout in the sixth for his first outing since joining Iowa for MLB rehab.

Blake Lalli knocked a two-out double off the right field wall in the sixth after the Cubs failed to collect an extra-base hit yesterday.

An error followed by a balk, a wild pitch, and two walks loaded the bases with one down for Reno against Michael Bowden in the seventh. Bowden did his best Houdini act and induced an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play to escape the hitless jam. The Illinois native went on to toss a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts.

Alfredo Amezaga broke out of an 0-for-21 slump with a lead off double in the eighth. Jim Adduci sacrificed Amezaga to third for the Cubs first runner 90 feet away on the evening. With the infield in, Greg Rohan lined a single over the shortstop to drive in his sixth RBI in as many games with Iowa.

Jairo Asencio entered in the ninth and surrendered a two-out solo shot to Adam Eaton to give Reno a 2-1 lead. The Dominican import suffered the loss. Zach Kroenke was charged with a blown save for allowing the I-Cubs run in the eighth, but picked up the win with the help of Eaton's homer. The Cubs went down in order in the ninth to give Jonathan Albaladejo his 21st save of the season.

The Cubs will look to right the ship tomorrow with another 7:05 p.m. start at Principal Park. Catch the Pre-Game On-Deck Circle with Deene Ehlis and Randy Wehofer at 6:45 p.m.
