
Baysox Rally Late to Top Curve

Curve, PA - The Bowie Baysox (59-55) used a four-run eighth inning to come from behind and beat the Altoona Curve (54-60) 8-7 on Monday night.
The Baysox took the early lead in the top of the first inning. With one out, Buck Britton singled and Robbie Widlansky doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Rhyne Hughes then knocked them both in with a two-run single to give the Baysox a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Curve immediately answered back. The first six batters of the inning all reached base and scored. The Curve recorded six hits in the inning capped by a two-run single by the number nine hitter Quincy Latimore to take a 6-2 lead.
The Baysox got a run back in the sixth inning when Manny Machado hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-3.
Ronnie Welty led off the top of the seventh inning with a double and then Jai Miller knocked him in with a single to center that made the score 6-4.
The Baysox took the lead in the eighth inning by scoring four runs. Britton led off with a single and scored on an RBI triple by Rhyne Hughes. Then with Machado batting, Hughes scored on a wild pitch to tie up the game. Machado would follow with a walk and go first to third on a wild pitch. Zelous Wheeler then gave the Baysox the lead with a sacrifice fly to score Machado. Ronnie Welty capped the scoring with a solo home run to make the score 8-6.
In the ninth the Curve did get one run back on an RBI triple by Matt Curry, but Kyler Newby was able to strand the tying run at third to hold on to the win.
Clay Schrader picked up his first career Double-A win going 2.2 scoreless innings in relief without allowing a hit.
Newby threw the final 1.1 innings to earn his 11th save in 11 attempts.
The loss went to Vic Black who allowed two runs on just one hit on 1.2 innings.
Tomorrow in game two of the series, LHP Jake Pettit (8-3, 4.24) will take on RHP Brandon Cumpton (10-9, 3.65).
The Baysox are on a seven-game homestand and will return home on Tuesday, August 14th for a four game, three day series against Erie that begins with a doubleheader.
