RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels, in conjunction with the Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, are pleased to announce that LHP Mike Kickham has been named as the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending on August 5th.

Kickham made one start during the course of the week, in which he allowed three hits and 12 strikeouts in eight and 1/3 scoreless innings against the Reading Phillies August 2nd. The 12 strikeouts match Richmond's single-game franchise record, which was accomplished twice by former Squirrel LHP Eric Surkamp in 2011. Kickham earned his ninth win of the season and established new career highs in strikeouts (12) and innings pitched (8.1) in Richmond's 2-0 victory.

Kickham is the fourth Flying Squirrel and the third Richmond pitcher (RHP Chris Heston, RHP Justin Fitzgerald) to earn a weekly league award this season. Third baseman Daniel Mayora is the lone Flying Squirrel to earn the Eastern League's Hitter of the Week award this season. The award is the tenth earned by a Flying Squirrel in the franchise's existence. Eight of those awards have been won by pitchers.

The 24-year old native of St. Louis, MO, has made 22 starts on the season for Richmond. He is currently 9-8 with an ERA of 2.76. Kickham currently ranks second in the Eastern League in opponents' batting average (.220), third in ERA (2.76) and fourth in strikeouts (105) and walks (63).

The San Francisco Giants selected Kickham in the sixth round of the 2010 MLB June draft out of Missouri State University. He is currently in his third season as a professional.

The Flying Squirrels begin a six-game home stand Tuesday night at The Diamond. Richmond will square off against the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals) in the first three games before finishing the home stand with a three-game series against the Bowie Baysox (Baltimore Orioles). Tickets for all six games are available and can be purchased by visiting SquirrelsBaseball.com.
