The Washington Nationals hace announced that Potomac All-Star catcher David Freitas has been traded to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for catcher Kurt Suzuki. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Freitas, 23, was the starting catcher in the Carolina-California League All-Star game. He led Potomac with a .374 on-base percentage while batting .271 with five homers and 46 RBI over 78 games. Freitas led Carolina League backstops with a .996 fielding percentage and threw out 33% of attempted base stealers.

A 2010 15th Round Pick out of Hawai'i, Freitas has started in the All-Star Game of his league in each of his first three pro seasons with the Washington organization. Freitas joins former P-Nats C Derek Norris, RHP Brad Peacock and LHP Tommy Milone, all part of the LHP Gio Gonzalez trade, in the Oakland organization.

Suzuki is a .254 (643-for-2530) career hitter with 134 doubles, 57 home runs, 302 RBI and a .689 OPS in 703 games spanning six seasons (2007-present) with Oakland.

Potomac faces the Winston-Salem Dash tonight at 7:00 PM in North Carolina.
