Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (64-45) took control early and led throughout in a 11-1 win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks (62-46) in front of 4,484 on Sunday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
After winning five straight against the American Northern Division-leading Storm Chasers, the RedHawks started out slow and couldn't keep up with Omaha's offense. Omaha scored 11 runs in the third through fifth innings and that was more than enough to get the win for starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi.
Odorizzi (8-1) gave up one run in 5.2 innings while giving up seven hits, three walks and striking out five. The lone run scored on an RBI-single by shortstop Angel Sanchez in the bottom of the sixth.
Omaha began their offensive attack in the top of the third. Irving Falu and Tony Abreu had RBI doubles, Wil Myers had an RBI-single and David Lough pitched-in with a sac-fly to give Omaha a 4-0 lead.
In the fourth, Omaha tacked on two more runs on a two-run single by Myers. The fifth inning brought five more runs for the Storm Chasers. After giving up a double, a single and a walk to start the inning, RedHawks starter Brian Bass (1-5) was replaced by Sergio Perez. After getting Adam Moore to line out to third, Perez walked Derrick Robinson, which allowed a run to score. Falu and Johnny Giavotella followed with two-run singles to extend the lead to 11-0.
Bass pitched four-plus innings, giving up nine runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out two. Perez, Aneury Rodriguez and Juan Abreu combined to keep Omaha off the board for the remainder of the game.
The first three hitters in the Omaha lineup - Falu, Giavotella and Myers - had at least two RBI's a piece and the Storm Chasers gathered 15 hits.
