New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
ALTOONA, Pa. - After scoring just one run in 14 innings on Friday, the Fisher Cats came out swinging to grab a 5-1 win over the Altoona Curve (53-53). The bottom of the order - hitters No. 6-9 - produced most of the damage, backing an outstanding Deck McGuire to give the Fisher Cats (42-66) the chance to split the series in the finale on Sunday night.
Brad Glenn started the night in the second inning with a two-run double off Altoona starter Kyle McPherson (L; 3-5). Two innings later, Sean Ochinko reached on a single, scoring when Ryan Goins tripled to center field to make it 3-0 in the Fisher Cats' favor.
In the fifth, Glenn started another rally with his second hit of the game, a single to left-center. Tolisano then ripped a triple to right field to plate Glenn for this 30th RBI of the season. Ochinko followed with his second hit to center to drive home Tolisano for the Fisher Cats fifth run of the game.
Deck McGuire (5-11) didn't need that much help on Saturday night, tossing seven shutout innings to earn his first win since the All-Star break. McGuire gave up just four hits and three walks while recording three strikeouts. He held the Curve hitless in five at-bats with runners in scoring position to snap a personal four-game winless streak.
The Fisher Cats bottom four hitters all produced two hits, accounting for eight of the team's 12 in the team. The quartet scored three runs while driving in four.
The series now comes to a close on Sunday night at 6 PM. RHP Chad Jenkins (5-9, 5.21) takes the ball against Altoona LHP Kris Johnson (0-0, 2.35). Radio coverage begins at 5:45 PM with Tom Gauthier on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return home for a six-game stand on Tuesday, July 31, with Fire Fighter Appreciation Night. Following the lead of Bank of New Hampshire, which donated $1,000, the Fisher Cats will donate 50% of $10 and $12 ticket sales to the Muscular Dystrophy Association when fans mention 'MDA' or 'FIREFIGHTERS' at the ticket window. The first 1,000 fans will receive a stress reliever fire truck courtesy of Bank of New Hampshire. For tickets and a full list of promotions for the homestand, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
