Squirrels Drop SeaWolves on Saturday

The SeaWolves could not make it back-to-back wins as they dropped the third game of the series to the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-3 in front of a packed house at Jerry Uht Park.

Richmond struck in the top of the second against Erie starter Patrick Cooper. Juan Perez led off and homered to left for a 1-0 lead.

The SeaWolves answered in the last of the third against Squirrels starter Justin Fitzgerald. With two outs, James McCann reached on an error and Jamie Johnson doubled to put a pair in scoring position. Niuman Romero singled home the base runners for a 2-1 'Wolves lead.

The Squirrels tied the game in the top of the fourth. Tommy Joseph led off with a walk, moved to second on a Mark Miniozzi walk and scored on a Luke Anders sacrifice fly.

Richmond regained the lead in the fifth. With one out, Gary Brown doubled and scored on a Ehire Adrianza knock making it 3-2. Daniel Mayora and Joseph each followed with singles loading the bases. Adrianza scored on a Minicozzi sacrifice fly and Mayora scored on a Perez single making it 5-2.

In the last of the fifth, Erie cut into the lead on a leadoff home run from Corey Jones making it 5-3. The home run for Jones was his first since early May.

Ryan Cavan led off the sixth with a home run to cap the night's scoring at 6-3.

Cooper (2-6) dropped his fifth straight game allowing five runs on nine hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

The SeaWolves and Squirrels wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m.
