POWER REPLAY: West Virginia beat Lakewood 6-0 on Friday night. Mike Jefferson, Zac Fuesser, and Robbie Kilcrease combined to limit the BlueClaws to six hits and three walks in the Power's third shutout this month (and season). Alen Hanson had two extra base hits and drove in three, while Gregory Polanco, Jose Osuna, Willy Garcia, and Chris Lashmet all added two hits apiece. Jefferson marked his return to the rotation with five innings of four hit ball and earned the win to move to 4-6.
WINNING WARRIORS: Friday night's victory at Lakewood guaranteed that West Virginia would have a winning record on a road trip for just the second time all season. The Power are 4-1 on this seven game swing. West Virginia's only other winning trip this season was its most recent: a 5-3 mark during an eight-game jaunt through Georgia from July 10-17.
.500 OR BETTER: The Power are now 14-10 this month with four games left. The club has not had an even or winning record in any month so far this season.
TRIPLE THE FUN: Alen Hanson's ninth inning triple was his league-best tenth of the year and the 34th by the Power this season, second most in the league behind Ashville's 36. It was also the first time that West Virginia's designated hitter had a three base hit in any game in 2012. Power designated hitters hold a combined batting average of .252 with 16 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, and 45 runs batted in.
PROLIFIC POWER: Jose Osuna hit home runs in three straight games to close out the Greensboro series and now has eight long balls this month. The infielder has matched Mat Gamel (May 2006), Stephen Chapman (July 2007), and Matt LaPorta (August 2007) for the club record of home runs in a single month. Osuna is batting .310 this month and has driven in 20 runs. No West Virginia player had hit home runs in three straight games since Rogelio Noris did in early May 2010.
ONE EARNED: Nathan Kilcrease was charged with his first earned run as a member of the Power bullpen in Wednesday night's game at Greensboro. The right-hander was added to the Power roster on May 29 and appeared in 16 games, spanning 21 innings before allowing an earned run. Kilcrease now has an ERA of 0.41 and has only allowed two total runs while wearing a Power jersey this season.
CRACKING GOOD: West Virginia and Lakewood continue their season series tonight. The Power have won nine of 13 with the BlueClaws this year, but still trail the all-time series 56-50. West Virginia is 21-23 at FirstEnergy Park since 2005 and needs to win once more in the six remaining games between toteams to guarantee a season-series victory.
PROMO CHECK- AUGUST 2 & 3: The Power will hold two BIG 12 promotional night's during the next homestand. August 2 is NFL Night featuring an appearance by the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, while August 3 is WVU night featuring appearances by West Virginia University legends including Pat White.
POWER POINTS: Eric Avila and Elias Diaz have both hit safely in nine straight games... Starling Marte was recalled by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday at made his Major League debut in Houston. The outfielder went 2-4 including a home run on the very first pitch he faced from the Astros Dallas Keuchel.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh scored twice in the top of the ninth and beat Houston 6-5. The Buccos plated the winning run on a wild pitch after Starling Marte tied the game with a sac fly... Indianapolis fell to Pawtucket 5-3... Altoona swept a doubleheader with New Hampshire, winning 1-0 and 8-1. Phil Irwin and Brandon Cumpton garnered the wins... Bradenton was blanked 2-0 by Daytona... State College and Connecticut finished Thursday's suspended game, a 6-4 Spikes win, before playing Friday's scheduled game, a 9-4 State College victory. The Spikes have won five straight and nine of ten.
ON THE AIR: All 140 West Virginia Power games can be heard on ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, WV, across the state on the Power Radio Network, and online at milb.com. Adam Marco will call the action for each of the 70 home games this season, while the home team will provide coverage while the Power are on the road.
