Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springdale, AR - Springfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 6th, and held on as the Naturals scored twice in the 9th, but Keith Butler notched his 21st straight save to hold on to a 4-2 win.

Scott McGregor set the tone for the Cardinals on the mound throwing six and two thirds shutout innings striking out five and allowing just three singles.

Springfield scored all four of their runs in the 6th as Jermaine Curtis delivered an RBI single, Chris Swauger and Xavier Scruggs drew walks with the bases loaded and Greg Garcia brought a run home on a ground out to make it a 4-0 game.

Michael Blazek threw a scoreless 8th before Jorge Rondon entered in the 9th to try and get the last three outs. But a lead-off single and two walks with two outs allowed Rey Navarro to come to the plate and single on the infield to erase the shutout and end Rondon's outing. With the bases still loaded Keith Butler walked the first man he faced to force home a run making it 4-2. With the tying run at 2nd, Butler struck out Paulo Orlando to end the game with the All-Star picking up his 21st straight save. Scott McGregor earned his third straight win.

Springfield will continue their four game series with NW Arkansas Saturday night at 7:00pm. The Cardinals will have Richard Castillo on the mound against Michael Mariot of the Naturals.

The Cardinals will return home August 3rd to play a four-game series with the Tulsa Drillers. Every Friday is a Firework Friday night thanks to AM Pyrotechnics!
