
Chivas USA's Ante Jazic Called up to Canadian National Team

CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, July 26, 2012) - Chivas USA announced today that defender Ante Jazic has been called up to the Canadian National Team for an international friendly match against Trinidad and Tobago, that will take place on Aug. 15 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., at the Central Broward Regional Park.
Jazic will make his 29th appearance with his country's National Team. The Halifax, Nova Scotia-native and 36-year-old veteran defender for the Rojiblancos represented Canada in FIFA World Cup(tm) Qualifiers in 2004 (Canada reached CONCACAF semi-final round), he helped Canada reach the semi-final stage of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, represented Canada in FIFA World Cup(tm) Qualifiers in 2008 (Canada reached CONCACAF semi-final round), and again in 2011.
"It's always a privilege to get called-in by your National Team," said Jazic. "I'm looking forward to playing with the guys, we have a good group. We started the qualification process off well and we're looking to build momentum with this friendly against Trinidad and Tobago."
Jazic has been among Chivas USA's most solid and consistent performers on the pitch, having logged an impressive 1,515 minutes in 17 starts.
"I think Ante is continuing to earn call-ups for his country because he is continuing to do good work every day," said Chivas USA Head Coach Robin Fraser. "It's really a testament to how focused he is and how he takes care of himself, and certainly he's been a consistent player for us and as a result has been a consistent player for his country."
Jazic made his debut for Canada in a May 1998 friendly match against Macedonia . He has recorded one goal and was a member of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad.
Chivas USA continues its Western Conference push as it faces the Portland Timbers, Saturday July 28 at JELD-WEN Field, for an 8:00 pm (PT) match.
