Sporting Kansas City News Release

Sporting Kansas City announced Thursday that the club has signed goalkeeper Scott Angevine.

"I'm really excited to be a part of this organization. It's a great opportunity to get my professional career started," Angevine said. "There is nothing better than getting signed by your hometown team. I grew up going to games so today is a dream come true."

The Kansas City, Kan. native was a former member of the Sporting Kansas City Academy, playing for the under-19 team that won the 2008 U.S. Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championship and went on to reach the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship final.

He graduated from Blue Valley Northwest High School, where he captained the team to the Kansas 6A State Championship and was named an NSCAA honorable mention All-American.

He attended Northern Illinois University in 2007 and completed his college career at Coastal Carolina University, where he was teammates with current Sporting Kansas City defender Cyprian Hedrick.

A two-time All-Big South First Team selection, Angevine holds the school record with 16 career shutouts and led the team to three straight conference championships and back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

Angevine, 23, began training with Sporting Kansas City last summer and continued to work out with the team throughout the 2012 pre-season and regular season.

He is one of seven players from the Kansas City area now on the club's active roster, along with Michael Thomas, Seth Sinovic, Kyle Miller, Jon Kempin, Kevin Ellis and Matt Besler.
