DAVENPORT, Iowa - Quad Cities River Bandits left-hander Hector Hernandez set down the first 12 Lake County Captains batters and gave up two hits in seven innings of one-run ball to lead Quad Cities to a 7-2 home win over the Captains in front of 3,678 fans at Modern Woodmen Park Thursday night.

One night after the River Bandits were held to three hits, they returned the favor against the Captains, who were hitless until a fifth-inning leadoff single by first baseman Jerrud Sabourin. Hernandez had a season-high seven strikeouts without a walk and faced one batter over the minimum until two outs in the seventh, when Sabourin homered to right field for the second Lake County hit and first run.

Quad Cities (14-12 second half, 49-46 overall) was shut out for the first three innings by Captains right-hander Mason Radeke (5-4). Left fielder Anthony Garcia led off the fourth inning with his second hit - a double down the left-field line - and right fielder David Medina followed with a walk. After second baseman Luis Mateo flied out to right field, first baseman Jeremy Patton waited out three balls before taking a strike from Radeke. On the 3-1 pitch, Patton ripped a fastball over the right field wall for a 3-0 River Bandits lead and his first Midwest League home run.

The River Bandits extended the lead in the fifth inning, as center fielder Roberto Reyes led off with a solo home run to right field - his first since April 20. Shortstop Matt Williams then drew a walk, and designated hitter Nick Martini singled to right field. After Garcia struck out, Medina grounded a base hit into right-center field and hustled to second base for an RBI double that ended the night for Radeke. The Captains starter allowed six hits and seven earned runs while walking three batters and striking out eight in 4 1/3 innings.

Against right-handed reliever Antwonie Hubbard, Mateo brought in a run on a sacrifice fly that made it 6-0. After Patton was hit by a pitch, third baseman Anthony Melchionda grounded an RBI double down the right-field line. Patton was thrown out at home on the play, but Quad Cities had already taken a 7-0 lead.

Following the Sabourin home run, Lake County (14-12, 45-50) scored its other run in the eighth inning against right-hander Robert Stock, who issued a one-out walk and single before throwing a wild pitch that brought in the run.

River Bandits left-hander Danny Miranda struck out one batter while getting the final three outs to end the shortest nine-inning home game for Quad Cities this season at two hours,16 minutes.

The River Bandits will try to win their first series against an Eastern Division opponent this season when they play the deciding game against the Captains at 7 p.m. Friday night. Right-hander Brad Watson, a native of Urbandale, Iowa, will make his Midwest League debut against Captains right-hander Felix Sterling (3-8).
