Improbable Comeback Ends in Marathon Defeat

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- After the Biscuits (50-44/14-11) scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth off closer Evan Marshall to tie the game at five, the BayBears (52-43/12-13) defeated the Biscuits 8-7 in 14 innings at Riverwalk Monday night.

An RBI-single from Marc Krauss started the scoring in a three-run fourteenth inning for the BayBears to take an 8-5 lead. Mayo Acosta would hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourteenth to bring the Biscuits with in one. Eury De La Rosa struck out Hak-Ju Lee to end the game.

The Biscuits entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 5-0 and facing Marshall who had only given up five earned runs the entire season. A hit-by-pitch, Mobile error and single loaded the bases. Ryan Garko hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field to start the scoring. Kyeong Kang followed with an RBI-single. Brett Nommensen then banged a come-backer off the glove of Marshall that deflected into right field, scoring two runs and bringing Montgomery within one. A suicide squeeze from Brad Coon would tie the game at five.

Montgomery trailed by five after four innings. The Mobile pitching staff retired 17-consecutive batters from the third inning to the eighth before the ninth inning rally.

Shane Dyer (4-3) gave up the three runs in the fourteenth inning for the loss.

The series finale between the BayBears and Biscuits will be Tuesday afternoon at 12:05. RHP Alex Colome will start for Montgomery while Mobile will send out RHP Gaby Hernandez.
