Mobile BayBears News Release
It took 14 innings, but the Mobile BayBears defeated the Montgomery Biscuits 8-7 Monday night at River Walk Stadium. The BayBears led 5-0 entering the bottom half of the ninth inning, but the Biscuits rallied to tie the game with five runs and send the game into extra innings. In the top of the 14th inning, Mobile took an 8-5 lead, scoring three runs on two hits. In the bottom half of the inning, the Biscuits got within one run of tying the game again after a two-run homer from Mayo Acosta made it an 8-7 BayBears lead. Despite giving up the home run, LHP Eury De La Rosa completed a strong outing in relief, striking out Hak-Ju Lee for the final out of the game.
Matt Davidson (pictured right) scored the first run of the game, giving Mobile a 1-0 lead with a RBI single in the first inning. David Nick then hit his third home run of the season to extend the BayBears lead, 2-0. Mobile took a 5-0 lead, scoring three more runs in the fourth inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Nick and Evan Frey. The BayBears wouldn't score again until Frey crossed the plate on a ball hit off the glove of Biscuits first baseman Ryan Garko to give Mobile a 6-5 lead in the 14th inning. The BayBears added two more runs on a sacrifice fly from Davidson and a RBI double from Alfredo Marte to give Mobile a 8-5 lead.
The Biscuits were held to just two hits over the first eight innings before tying the game with five runs in the bottom of the ninth. The Biscuits tying run scored on a suicide squeeze from Brad Coon that plated Kyeong Kang.
De La Rosa earned his fourth win of the year, pitching four innings, allowing two runs on one hit while strike out seven Biscuits batters. RHP Shane Dyer suffered the loss after entering the game in the top of the 14th inning and allowing three runs on two hits.
Mobile and Montgomery conclude the four game series on Tuesday, July 17, at 12:05 PM. The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium Thursday, July 19, to open up a four game homestand vs. the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at 7:05 PM.
