Frisco RoughRiders News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - Off a 10 run defeat the night before, Frisco (10-11, 51-40) got a major lift from its offense, as the team outslugged Corpus Christi (14-7, 51-40) 11-7 Saturday night at Whataburger Field. The victory snapped a two-game skid, while the RoughRiders posted a season-high 19 hits.
Barret Loux would retire the first three batters he faced, but battled his command in the second. After allowing a one out single to Drew Locke, Loux issued back-to-back walks to Jake Goebbert and Kody Hinze to load the bases. With Chris Wallace at the plate, Loux threw two wild pitches allowing Locke and Goebbert to score, while the Hooks plated a third run on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Kreke.
Down 3-0, the 'Riders turned the tables in third, batting around against Rob Rasmussen (0-1). The first three batters singled, doubled, and tripled in succession, while the three-bagger by Ryan Strausborger brought Frisco within a run. However the deficit wouldn't last much longer, as Leury Garcia and Chris McGuiness both tallied RBIs.
Corpus reclaimed the lead (5-4) in the bottom of the third, courtesy of a double and a fielder's choice, but the RoughRiders continued the hit parade in the fourth. Sending eight men to bat, the visitors used a pair of Hooks errors, and five hits to take a 7-5 advantage. Leury Garcia (fielder's choice) and Alex Buchholz (single) each earned RBIs.
A wild pitch gave Frisco an insurance run in the sixth, before the Hooks plated two in the seventh. Back to a one run game (8-7), Frisco added three more runs in the eighth en route to an eventual 11-7 win. Chris McGuiness and Alex Buchholz each added their second RBIs in the inning. Leury Garcia recorded a double and his third run scored.
Zach Osborne (1-0) picked up his first Double-A win, going two scoreless innings and striking out two. Rob Rasmussen suffered the loss. In his second start with Corpus Christi, the southpaw lasted only three innings, gave up six runs (all earned), eight hits, and walked one. 'Riders starter Barret Loux went the first three innings, allowed five runs (four earned), three hits, three walks, and three wild pitches.
Frisco concludes its four game series with Corpus Christi on Sunday night. Cody Buckel (1-3, 3.22) makes his fourth start of the season for the RoughRiders, and will be opposed by right-hander Jarred Cosart (4-5, 3.91). This season against Frisco, Cosart is 3-2 (five starts) while posting a 3.29 ERA. First pitch is slated for 6:05 from Whataburger Field, and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:30.
The RoughRiders return home on Monday, July 16, when San Antonio visits Dr Pepper Ballpark. To purchase tickets, fans can visit ridersbaseball.com.
