Generals Drop Series Finale in Front of Sellout Crowd

JACKSON, TENN. (JULY 3, 2012) - The Generals dropped the final game of the short three-game series to the Biscuits, 6-1. The game was played in front of a sellout crowd of 6,000 fans, which was the first Pringles Park sellout since July 3, 2009. Despite the loss, the Generals won the series, taking two of three from Montgomery.

Jackson's lone run came in the third inning thanks in part to a Biscuits error. Leury Bonilla reached base on a throwing error by shortstop Hak-Ju Lee and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nate Tenbrink.

Montgomery scored all but one of their runs in the sixth inning. It started with a line drive single to left field by Mark Thomas. Hak-Ju Lee singled on a bunt, advancing Thomas to second base. Both Biscuits scored on a double by Omar Luna.

Tyler Bortnick collected two RBIs on a double to center field. Bortnick came home on a throwing error committed by Gabriel Noriega, making the score 5-1.

Michael Sheridan (4x4, 2B) led off the ninth inning with a single. Brett Nommensen drove in Sheridan on his third double of the year, setting the final score of 6-1.

LHP James Paxton made his first start since May 25th, pitching four scoreless innings. Paxton allowed two hits and struck out two while surrendering no walks.

RHP Moises Hernandez (4-1, 5.19) took the loss after allowing five earned runs on six hits. Montgomery starter Jacob Thompson (6-5, 4.70) earned the win on seven innings pitched, one run, and three strike outs.

The Generals will travel to Pearl, Miss., for a three-game series against the Braves, beginning a six-game road trip. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. LHP Anthony Fernandez (2-0, 0.50) will make the start for Jackson after pitching two straight complete games. RHP Ben Sheets will pitch for Mississippi, his first start since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2010.
