Bears Sign Forward Alex Berry to One-Year Contract

HERSHEY, Pa. - The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that the club has signed right wing Alex Berry to an American Hockey League contract for the 2012-2013 season. The announcement was made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.

Berry, 26, most recently saw American Hockey League action with the Norfolk Admirals in the 2010-11 season, where he recorded 34 points (14 goals, 20 assists), 150 penalty minutes and a plus-seven rating.

The 6-2, 212-pound native of Danvers, MA began his professional career with the AHL's Toronto Marlies in 2008-09, and went on to post seven points (three goals, four assists) in 63 career regular-season games. He also spent part of the 2008-09 season with the ECHL's Reading Royals, recording five assists in five regular-season games and adding six points in 16 Kelly Cup playoff contests.

Berry completed a four-year career at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst (HE) prior to turning pro. He totaled 62 points (29 goals, 33 assists) while playing for the Minutemen.

Berry was originally selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
