Epic Rain Postpones Second-Half Opener

June 21, 2012 - Carolina League (CarL) Salem Red Sox

Lynchburg, VA (June 21, 2012) - If you were hoping that the All-Star Break would last one more day, you got your wish!

The Salem Sox and Lynchburg Hillcats were rained out on Thursday evening in Lynchburg following an outrageous 30 minute storm that arrived shortly before first pitch and left the field completely drenched. The two clubs will play a doubleheader to kick off the second half on Friday, beginning at 6:05.

The Red Sox will be without their first-half superstar, Jackie Bradley, Jr., who earned a promotion to Double-A Portland after competing in Tuesday's All-Star festivities. Earlier on Thursday night, Bradley bashed a line-drive single on the first pitch he saw as a member of the Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field in Maine.

Salem will send Keith Couch to the mound in the opener on Friday opposite Chris Masters. In game two, Scott Swinson will make his first Carolina League start against Aaron Northcraft.

Programming note: The beginning of Friday's twin-bill will be broadcast live on www.salemsox.com, with NewsTalk 960 & FM 107.3 WFIR slated to join the action in progress at 7:03.
