PawSox Come Up Short in the 9th

The Braves defeat the PawSox 11-8 tonight at McCoy Stadium, despite a 4-run ninth inning. The PawSox had 15 hits while the Braves had 14 and five of those were homeruns. Alex Hassan had two RBI doubles and Lars Anderson had a solo homerun (8) in the game. They led the team with three hits each.
Mauro Gomez doubled (19) to right field and scored on Hassan's double (9) to left field to put the PawSox on the board in the fourth inning. Jon Hee led off the fifth inning with a single, advanced to second when Ryan Kalish walked and scored on a single by Ryan Lavarnway. Back to back doubles by Anderson (14) and Hassan (10) in the sixth inning made it 8-3 Gwinnett. Anderson led off with a homerun in the eighth and made it 8-4.
The PawSox rallied in the ninth as Pedro Ciriaco picked up his first hit of the night (double) to center, moved to third on a single to left, and scored on Lavarnway's RBI sac fly to right field. Anderson got his third hit of the game that scored two runs which made the score 11-7, and Hassan followed with a single up the middle. Che-Hsaun Lin made it 11-8 with a double down right field line that scored Anderson on third. With two outs in the inning, pinch hitter Nate Spears struck out to end the threat.
Starter Billy Buckner (0-1) got the loss. He went four and two thirds innings, gave up nine hits, seven earned runs (3 homeruns), walked three and struck out one. For the Braves, Yohan Flande (3-4) pitched five innings, gave up five hits, two runs, walked three, and struck out two. Luis Durango and Lance Zawadzki led the Braves with three hits each.
Gomez, Kalish and Lavarnway each had two hits for the PawSox as they move to 40-25. The series concludes tomorrow at 7:05 pm. Brandon Duckworth (6-1, 4.22) faces Kris Medlen (0-1, 4.91).
