Tonight's Game-- The RedHawks will try to make team history tonight as they look for a 14th-straight home win when they face the New Orleans Zephyrs at 7:05 p.m. A win would also tie the franchise's longest overall win streak at nine.
Last Game-- With the RedHawks' 12-game home winning streak down to a final strike, Brad Snyder hit a three-run walk-off homer to send the RedHawks to a 4-3 win over the Iowa Cubs Tuesday night. Trailing 3-1, Brian Bixler and Jimmy Paredes led off the bottom of the ninth with singles to put the tying runners on base. Cubs reliever Rafael Dolis then struck out Matt Downs and Mike Hessman to put the RedHawks down to their final out. Snyder-who had spent parts of the last three seasons with Iowa-swatted a 1-2 pitch from Dolis (0-1) over the center field fence for the game-winning three-run homer. Iowa managed to score three runs over the second and third innings while collecting just one RBI. Two throwing errors by the RedHawks allowed a pair of runs to score to extend Iowa's lead to 3-0 in the third. The RedHawks pitching staff held the Cubs without a hit over the final six innings and retired 19 of the final 21 batters. Enerio Del Rosario (2-1) earned his second win in three games after tossing a scoreless ninth.
Tonight's Probable Pitchers-- Paul Clemens makes his 12th start and look to continue his success at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...In five home starts, Clemens is 4-1 with a 1.50 ERA, limiting opponents to a .205 average...He's also walked just five batters in 30 innings at home as well...On Friday against Nashville, Clemens tied a season high with seven innings...He allowed one run on a solo homer, and held the Sounds to an 0-for-9 mark with runners in scoring position...Clemens has allowed two runs or less in six of his 11 starts, but his ERA has been inflated a bit by some rough road starts...He faced New Orleans in his Triple-A debut last September and allowed eight runs over 4.2 innings while battling illness...New Orleans starter J.D. Martin is coming of great back-to-back starts, allowing just two runs and nine hits over 14.2 IP...However, like Clemens, the road has not been kind to Martin...In six road starts, Martin is 1-4 with a 8.69 ERA and opponents are hitting .380 against him...Martin has issued just 12 walks all season and his 1.68 walks per nine innings the fifth-best in the PCL...He is in his first year with the Marlins organization and between 2009 and 2010, he made 24 starts with the Washington Nationals, going 6-9 with a 4.32 ERA.
Making History-- The RedHawks have tied the franchise record for most consecutive home wins in a single season and now look to make the record their own. The RedHawks won their final 13 home games of 1999 as well as the first two of 2000.
Lucky 13-- The RedHawks are 13 games above .500 for the first time since August 4, 2008 when they were 65-52.
Eight is Great-- The RedHawks have won eight straight games for the first time since August, 2005. Tonight they'll try to tie a franchise record for longest overall wining streak with nine straight. (August 2-12, 2005; August 17-26, 1999)
Anatomy of a Win Streak-- During the current home win streak, the RedHawks have allowed three runs or less seven times. They've won seven games by one run, including three walk-off victories (two HR). They have trailed at some point in seven games. Four games have been decided by the same 6-5 score.
Bricktown Magic-- Since the NBA playoffs began, the RedHawks and Thunder are a combined 23-2 in OKC. (Thunder 8-0)
Hessman's Place in History-- With five home runs between Sunday and Monday, Mike Hessman became the third player in PCL history to hit five homers over two consecutive games and the first since 1988. On Sunday he became the fifth player in team history to hit three home runs in a game and the first since Chad Tracy in 2010. Hessman had one previous three-homer game on April 20, 2008 with the Toldeo Mud Hens against the Louisville Bats (4x5, 5 RBI). He is the active leader in career minor league home runs with 364.
Barnes' Bat-- Outfielder Brandon Barnes has been hot since joining the RedHawks on May 27. He's hit safely in eight of nine games, and he is hitting .556 (10x18) with five RBIs during his current six-game hitting streak.
Angel in the Infield-- Shortstop Angel Sanchez collected at least one RBI in nine of his last 13 games. He's hitting .375 (15x40) with two homers and 12 RBIs during this span.
Against the Zephyrs-- Tonight marks the first of seven straight games these teams will play against each other...Following their four-game set in OKC, they'll start a three-game series in New Orleans Monday...These teams will become very familiar quickly as the 16 of the next 35 games are against each other...Last season the RedHawks dropped nine of 15 against the Zephyrs, hitting just .229 and were shutout three times...They split their eight games at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
