Round Rock Express News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. - Wil Myers' grand slam capped a five-run third inning and sent the Omaha Storm Chasers to a 7-2 victory over the Round Rock Express in Thursday night's Pacific Coast League series opener at Werner Park. The Express (27-34) have dropped five straight at Werner Park and fell to 5-11 in series openers. The Storm Chasers (35-26) lead the season series 7-2.
Luis Hernandez gave the Express an early lead with a one-out solo homer in the first, but the Storm Chasers batted around in the decisive third inning. Antony Seratelli led off with a double and later scored on Kevin Kouzmanoff's one-out single. Chris Getz and Derrick Robinson followed with back-to-back singles, loading the bases and setting the stage for Myers' grand slam - the sixth off an Express pitcher this season.
Round Rock missed an opportunity to quickly respond as Dusty Brown struck out with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth. Omaha stretched its lead to 7-1 in the seventh on Irving Falu's two-out, two-run homer. The Express had a mild threat in the ninth. After Yangervis Solarte's infield RBI single, Brown walked to load the bases with two outs. However, Tommy Hottovy induced a game-ending fielder's choice groundout from Tommy Mendonca.
Express starter Roy Oswalt (0-1), making his second start of the season after signing with the Texas Rangers nine days ago, was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on six hits and a walk over four innings with four strikeouts. Derek Hankins struck out two over three innings and surrendered Falu's two-run homer. Michael Kirkman worked around a one-out Salvador Perez double for a scoreless eighth with one strikeout.
Omaha starter Everett Teaford yielded only a Solarte second-inning, two-out single in addition to the Hernandez home run over two innings in a rehab start with two strikeouts. Jake Odorizzi (3-0) followed and earned the win; he held the Express to one run on five hits and two walks over six and two-thirds innings with 10 strikeouts. Hottovy was credited with his fourth save.
Solarte (2-for-3) and Julio Borbon (2-for-4) posted the only multiple-hit games for the Express. Borbon pushed his hitting streak to 16 games in his first action after being activated from the disabled list. Joey Butler and Mike Bianucci also had singles.
Perez (2-for-4) and Kouzmanoff (2-for-3) spearheaded Omaha's nine-hit attack. Kozmanoff scored twice.
Round Rock and Omaha continue their four-game series Friday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at Werner Park. Right-hander Greg Reynolds (4-4, 4.19 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express opposite Storm Chasers left-hander Jonathan Sanchez (0-1, 7.56 ERA).
Round Rock Express Baseball, owned and operated by Ryan Sanders Baseball, LP, is the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers and a member of the Pacific Coast League.
