Hayes, Hill Among Prospects Invited to Elite CampJune 1, 2012 - NBA Development League (D-League) Maine Red Claws
The Camp serves as an opportunity for the players to display their skills and be evaluated NBA team personnel. The two-day event features both drill work and full-court games, giving players the opportunity to showcase their talents. More than 50 NBA front office executives and scouts are expected to be on hand to evaluate the talent. The event gives NBA teams the opportunity to evaluate elite young players as they fill their summer league and training camp rosters
2011-12 marked the second season with the Red Claws for Kenny Hayes, a second-year pro out of the University of Miami - Ohio. Hayes blossomed into a true leader and key player in 2011-12, earning an invite early in the season to the Cleveland Cavaliers' training camp and concluding the season by earning the NBA Development League's Most Improved Player Award. The 6-2 point guard appeared in 44 games for the Red Claws, averaging 33 minutes, 17.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game which ranked 7th in the league. His 17.1 ppg was second on the Red Claws this season, behind only Morris Almond, who signed with the Washington Wizards at the end of the 2011-12 season. Hayes set a franchise record on March 4, 2012 when he scored 52 points in a game against the Springfield Armor, shattering the team's previous high of 40 points in a game and just one shy of tying the league's all-time single game mark. He was the co-recipient with teammate Morris Almond of the 2012 Red Claws Player of the Year Award, Presented by PeoplesChoice along as voted by Red Claws fans.
Lawrence Hill, 6-8, 220 lb. forward out of Stanford University, participated in the Sacramento Kings' 2011 training camp, appearing in one preseason game where he grabbed one rebound in one minute off the bench on December 17, 2012 at Golden State. He appeared in 5 games with the NBA Development League's Texas Legends before being acquired by the Red Claws in a midseason trade. A steadying force on the young team, Hill averaged 12.9 points and 7.3 rebounds in 38 games total games this season. Hill was named to the 2011-12 NBA Development League Eastern Conference All-Star Team and also participated in the Shooting Stars Competition during the All-Star festivities.
