Springfield Armor News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Springfield Armor announced today that the team will be partnering with the Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity to aid in their Blitz Build as part of the organization's 'Home for the Holidays' campaign.
On the one-year anniversary of the tornadoes that struck Western Mass., Habitat for Humanity is enlisting volunteers to help build four new homes specifically for victims of last year's tornadoes. Members of the Armor front office staff will be volunteering their time in an organized day of service on June 6 to continue the process of rebuilding the city of Springfield.
"We're excited to be able to volunteer our time to such a noble cause," said Armor President Alex Schwerin. "As a community organization, it's important for us to give back to the city of Springfield that has so readily embraced us, both on and off the court."
The Armor continue their off season work in the community on the heels of being honored by the NBA Development League for the team's commitment to community service. The Armor earned an NBA Development League business award last week after the team's players, coaches, mascot, dance team and front office staff took part in more than 100 community events during the 2011-12 season.
"We're proud to be recognized by the NBA D-League for our commitment to community service," said Schwerin. "We've been privileged to partner with so many terrific local organizations in the past year and we look forward to continuing to expand our efforts in the off season and into the 2012-13 season."
