SPRINGDALE, AR - The Northwest Arkansas Naturals used three home runs to top the Midland RockHounds 10-3 on Friday night at Arvest Ballpark. The win snaps the Naturals five-game losing streaks.
The Naturals' offense got on the board on the second pitch of the game when Yem Prades hit a solo home run to make it 1-0. Christian Colon then worked a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and later scored on an RBI single from Eric Duncan. Johnny Whittleman worked a walk, and Paulo Orlando was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Carlo Testa then grounded into a force out, that plated Duncan to make it 3-0 Naturals.
The RockHounds (25-22) got on the board in the top of the fourth inning when Anthony Aliotti belted a solo home run off of Elisaul Pimentel to cut the lead to 3-1. The home run was the third home run of the season.
Pimentel (2-2) went five and two-thirds innings allowing seven hits and one run, walking one and striking out five. His counterpart Haviland (2-4) went five innings allowing six hits and six runs, five of which were earned.
The Naturals' (24-22) offense kept things rolling picking up two more runs in the bottom of the seventh getting home runs from Whittleman and Testa to make it 8-2. Duncan and Whittleman each picked up another RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning to make it 10-2. Whittleman knocked in three runs giving him 27 RBI for the season.
Colon ripped a one-out double down the left-field line to get things going in the bottom of the fifth, and then stole third base. Rey Navarro reached on an error by the RockHounds second baseman Tyler Ladendorf that scored Colon and made it 4-1. Whittleman and Orlando each added RBI singles to make it 6-1 after five innings.
Michael Mariot worked three and a third innings allowing four hits and two runs, while and fanning three. Mariot picked up his first save of the season.
The Naturals will open up a three-game series with the Frisco RoughRiders tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. The Naturals will send Chris Dwyer (3-4, 4.91) against the RoughRiders Barret Loux (9-0, 2.50). The game can be heard on ESPN 92.1 The Ticket.
