Grimm Wins Seventh Game

May 24, 2012 - Texas League (TL) Frisco RoughRiders

Tulsa, Ok-Justin Grimm (7-3) looked like his old self. The "˜Riders ace tossed seven shutout innings, as Frisco took the second of three games over the Tulsa Drillers 4-0 Thursday night at ONEOK Field. It was the sixth time the RoughRiders had shutout an opponent this season.

After being held to only a pair of runs on Wednesday night, Frisco wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Jurickson Profar landed the opening salvo, with his 13th double of the season off Drillers starter Parker Frazier (2-5). Mike Olt then blooped a single to right, that was misplayed by Kent Matthes. Reading the play, Profar rounded third, and scored, after eluding the tag of catcher Lars Davis.

Ahead 1-0, Frisco tacked on its second run one inning later. Alex Buchholz led off the frame with a single to center, and advanced to third on a base knock by Leury Garcia. A double play by Jared Prince wiped the bases clean, but scored Alex Buchholz to make it 2-0.

With two outs, the visitors manufactured one more run, as Jose Felix doubled and later came home on an RBI single by Jurickson Profar.

In the fourth, the "˜Riders would benefit from another Tulsa error, to take a 4-0 advantage. Leading off the frame, Jose Felix reached on an error by Drillers third baseman Nolan Arenado. Felix scooted up to second on a fielder's choice, and scored on a base hit by Mike Olt.

That proved to be plenty for Justin Grimm, who scattered six hits over seven shutout innings. He ended his night by setting down seven in a row. Joseph Ortiz and Ross Wolf picked where their starter left off, allowing only one base hit over the final two innings.

Following his worst start of the season Friday night (five earned runs in six innings) Drillers starter Parker Frazier lasted only two frames (his shortest outing of the year). He surrendered three runs (two earned) on six hits, and walked two, to drop to 2-4 on the year.

The RoughRiders and the Drillers conclude their three game series Friday night. Chad Bell (0-0, 0.45) makes his second start of the year for Frisco, he is opposed by Drillers southpaw Nick Schmidt (2-2, 3.98). First pitch is slated for 7:05 and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:30.

Frisco returns home on May 30, when the Tulsa Drillers visit Dr Pepper Ballpark. To purchase tickets, fans can visit the box office, or buy online at ridersbaseball.com.
