Asheville Tourists News Release

The Tourists finished off their second consecutive sweep, and fifth this season, by defeating the Greenville Drive 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon. Asheville used a six-run fourth inning to bury the Drive and conclude their home-stand with a 7-0 mark.

In a battle of first round draft picks, Asheville's Tyler Anderson (3-0, 1.89) outdueled Greenville's Henry Owens (4-2, 5.63) to earn his third victory in as many starts. Anderson did not walk a batter while striking out six in his seven innings of work. The Drive managed just four hits and one earned run off the T's lefty.

In a scoreless game, the Tourists went to work in the fourth inning. Sam Mende led off the frame with a double down the left field line. Two batters later, the Tourists began a streak of six consecutive singles. Will Swanner singled home Mende and advanced to second on a throwing error by Keury De La Cruz.

Taylor Featherston drove in Swanner with a single to down the left field line and David Kandilas followed with a bunt single. Jared Simon then plated Featherston with his single to left and Jose Rivera loaded the bases with a line drive to center. Delta Cleary Jr. joined the party by plating a pair with his single to shallow left; giving the home team a 6-0 lead after four.

Greenville recorded back-to-back doubles in the fifth to score one, and added an unearned run in the seventh to cut Asheville's advantage to 6-2. The Tourists never allowed the Drive any closer. Cleary Jr. singled home another run in the eighth to provide the five run margin. Rafael Suarez pitched the final two innings for the T's.

Asheville travels to Rome on Thursday for a double-header and will face the Braves five times in the next four days. The Tourist's return home next Monday to begin another seven-game home-stand.
